Who We Are

The Buffalo Harbor Sailing Club, Inc. (BHSC) is the Organizing Authority for keelboat racing on Lake Erie in Buffalo, NY

Established in 1977, the BHSC is incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit association operated by a volunteer board of directors who reflect the wishes of the membership. The BHSC does not have a clubhouse or docks.

The club’s focus is on its race programs run Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, and occasional weekend regattas. Our racing program provides for PHRF handicap racing in both main & jib and spinnaker classes, including a women’s centric series for each.

Club membership is open to everyone wishing to participate in the sport and membership classifications include Racing Member (typically a boat owner), Regular Member (typically a crew member), and a Jr. Member category for teens and young adults (12-21 years of age). All Memberships renew annually. Educational programs are available with membership. Members are encouraged to volunteer for all facets of club administration including working on the board of directors, assisting on the committee boats, managing regatta parties, and mentoring novice sailors. The membership averages around 400 sailors with 65-75 boats registered to race annually.

The Buffalo Harbor Sailing Club is a member of PHRF-LE and US Sailing, the governing body of sailboat racing in the United States.
