The Buffalo Harbor Sailing Club. Racing Since 1977.
The Buffalo Harbor Sailing Club was incorporated in 1977 as an organizing authority for racing sailors on the eastern end of Lake Erie. We are run by an all volunteer board and rely heavily on the volunteerism of our members and sponsors to make it all work. The club has enjoyed tremendous success in this endeavor and is now one of the premier sailboat racing programs in the country. From its modest beginnings, to its peak growth in the early 2000's, the club has maintained itself as the go-to club for keelboat racing in Western New York and Southern Ontario. Over the years many additional programs have been developed to promote the sport and provide access for those wishing to enter it. This section of the website is dedicated to our history. Where those wondering where it all came from can find insight; and those looking to remind themselves of just how much fun we've had can find memories. The Buffalo Harbor Sailing Club is a proud member of US Sailing and PHRF-LE. This section is under development and will likely remain so for a very long time. If you have any materials that would make a great addition to this section, please contact the Webmaster with your materials.
How about a video introduction? This was shot at the CPO Club on October 15, 1991 and discusses the origins of the club with some of its founding members. Moderators Bette Blum (the club's first ever female Commodore) and Daneen Kuhn lead this discussion of founding members reminiscing about how it all came to be in those early years of the BHSC. This video features: Bette Blum Daneen Kuhn Jerry Malachowski Steve Krzesinski Joe Barnhardt Tom Johnston Bernie Blum Bob Ihrig Many thanks to former Membership Director Patrick Weisansal for posting this to his YouTube channel.
