You may also want to consider one of our programs below, which include an introductory membership if you; Are new to sailing or to the area? Check out our Discover Buffalo Sailing program. Have a boat but new to racing? Our Learn to Race program might be for you.
The Racing Membership - *$225 This membership is for those wishing to enter a boat into the racing program and it provides you with access to registration for all BHSC races. Please note that an active minimum insurance level must be kept at all times and a PHRF-LE handicap rating must be provided separately to the Club Handicapper in order to qualify a boat for BHSC racing. Details for this are available in your registration process.
The centerpiece of the club’s racing program is its weekly Wednesday night races. Three series of 5 races each are run between mid-May and mid-September and we typically provide for nine classes of competition. These classes are organized by sail plan (Main & Jib or Spinnaker) and the PHRF handicap rating. At present we are also running an ODR for the J105 class.
Racing is also available weekly on Tuesday nights in a similar format. However In addition to the sail plan and PHRF rating distinction, we also run two distinct programs. The China Light series is designed as a women’s centric program that requires a female helms-person and that the majority of crew be women. This is to encourage women to become actively involved in sailing and to provide for as much racing experience as possible. The second program is known as the RCR series, named for our platinum sponsor RCR Yachts. This series is open to all classes and provides for an outstanding opportunity to train crew in a less intense environment.
If this is still not enough for you, we also organize a minimum of two regattas each year!
The racing season culminates in November each year when trophies are presented to those finishing in the top three of each class at our annual Awards Banquet gala. Climb Aboard! New Member Signup
The Regular Membership - $60 This Membership level is for everyone who regularly races with the BHSC or participates on a committee. Note that this level is typically for crew and is not the correct membership if you are wanting to register a boat. Please see 'Racing Member' for that. A Regular Member is entitled access to all club events, reduced fees for regatta parties and club merchandise, the privilege of volunteering for committees, and to run club events. Regular members may sail exclusively on one boat or participate on as many as they like. Members also have access to our Crew Bank, where opportunities may be sought or found to race on other member boats. Climb Aboard! New Member Signup
The Junior Membership - $25 Buffalo Harbor Sailing Club is proud to offer a Junior Membership for those 12 to 21 years old. Although we have no specific junior sailing class, we do try to place any interested junior member on a racing sailboat and learn to sail/race all at the same time. Many skippers take crew out on practice days and this is the ideal time to learn and sharpen your skills. Climb Aboard! New Member Signup
